WHAT'S IN THE NAME?

“Pinoy” is a popular local term referring to Filipinos living in the Philippines and overseas. “Platform” is a means or opportunity for public expression of opinions.

It took me a long while to come up with this name. I struggled to think of something unique and simple that would essentially encapsulate the theme of this blog. I ended up with this title hoping to give this blog a clear identity and to set it apart from the rest.

This is a venue for ideas and commentaries regarding anything about the Philippines. It can reflect the good and the bad, the past and the present, the gloom and the hope. It can both be familiar and unusual, sympathetic and critical.  It seeks to be informative, relevant, and thought-provoking. It caters to all the Pinoys living in the country and abroad, the Pinoys mixed with other race, the Pinoy watchers belonging to other nationalities, and anyone who considers themselves 'Pinoy at heart.'

As a Filipino, allow me to share with you my love/hate relationship with the Philippines. I believe that there are so many proud moments and embarrassing instances that make this country unique and sometimes downright eccentric. Either way, this warrants a kind of platform to discuss anything Pinoy!

I hope that you will join me in my quest to (re)discover and uphold this constant fascination about the Philippines.  Happy reading!
